How Dorje Began

Dr. James Heinritz and Dr. Li Xin traveled to Dzogchen Monestary to spend time in retreat and meditation when a chance encounter and conversation with Dzogchen Ripoche changed their world. When they were asked by Dzogchen Rinpoche if they would help with the opening of the monastery’s Kalsang Philanthropic Hospital they felt there was no way to refuse this simple request from such an eminent Buddhist leader. Immediately they put together a plan for assistance, beginning with recruiting additional volunteer medical help and raising funds for supplies. After nearly a year of preparation and work, they opened the hospital and together with another volunteer doctor, Dr. Jason Young, brought in a team of doctors and eye surgeons to provide Free Cataract Surgeries.

James said “Life gave me a chance to help others. I’m just one person, doing what I can to help.”
